A Personal Biography
Current Status:
Proud Shoreline City Council member, elected since 2007 when she defeated Maggi Fimia based on a conviction that the Shoreline City Council had to rise above the divisiveness and fighting to actually get things done. Since then, Doris has helped bring civility back to Shoreline's City Council. Single mother raised two children, now in their early 20s.
Education:
Doris is an honor graduate from Lakes High School in the Clover Park School District. In 1974 she received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Washington State University. Later, she entered a master's program in School Psychology at Western Washington University and also enrolled at the University of Washington.
Work Experience:
AT&T computer room supervisor, Boeing SPEEA employee, school psychologist, real estate agent and property manager.
Community Service:
Girl Scout troop leader, Richmond Little League Board, Klahaya Swim and Tennis Club Board, and YMCA hiking trip volunteer. PTA President, Secretary, Treasurer, VP of Ways and Means, and Local Units Services, Levy chair, Membership chair, and Hospitality chair, Syre Playground Committee fundraiser and grant writer. Richmond Beach Community Association Halloween Carnival and Pizza Mia Benefit Lunch chair and Shoreline Public School District Advisory Committees for Budget and Programs/Operations.
Financial supporter:

Born:
Pearl City, Hawaii to Tadashi and Irene Ichiko in 1952.
Parents:
Tadashi served proudly for 22 years in the United States Army, retired and then worked for Coca-Cola Bottling Company. Irene was a dedicated homemaker, raising four daughters.
Family history:
Doris is the eldest child. All her sisters graduated from Washington State University. This fulfilled their parents' dream that all their children would be college graduates. Her siblings still live in Washington, less than an hour from each other. The family extends to 7 nieces and nephews, most of whom are university graduates or currently attending. Her sisters are an accountant, manager and a public school educator. While growing up, the family moved many, many times because of the many military relocations of their father. Doris attended six schools up through high school. She married David McConnell, MD in 1975 and they were married for 23 years. Doris became a single mother in 1998 because her husband lost his courageous battle with cancer.
